Tigers split weekend games; defeat Red Raiders, fall to Pioneers

CHILLICOTHE — With both teams combining for 30 points in the first half, the McClain Tigers were unable to keep pace with the Zane Trace Pioneers in the final two quarters, as they fell in the non-league game 50-35 Saturday night at ZTHS.
The win by the Pioneers was their third of the season (3-5) as they are a member of the Scioto Valley Conference, and the loss sends MHS to 3-7 overall.
[[In-content Ad]]In the first quarter, the scoreboard was in favor of ZT at 11-8. The second quarter was low-scoring at 6-5 in favor of ZT. The Pioneers led at the half 17-13.
McClain came out in the third quarter, winning 11-10, but it was all Pioneers in the final eight minutes with them outscoring the visiting Tigers 23-11.
The Tigers were led by Ryan Faulconer with 10 points, followed by Roger Carroll with nine points, including two 3-pointers.
Trey Lytle finished with six points (two 3-pointers), while Brent Shannon and Evan Mustard each finished with three points, both from 3-pointers.
Also scoring for the Tigers were Thomas Schrader and John Turner with two points each.
For the Pioneers, Wes Bean finished with 23 points, followed by Ian Carle with 10 points.
At the free-throw line, the Pioneers were 13-of-23, while the Tigers were 5-of-7 as MHS had 22 fouls and ZT committed 12.
MHS will play again on Saturday when they travel to face the Madison-Plains Golden Eagles on Friday, Jan. 13. On Saturday, the Tigers will return home to host the Unioto Shermans.
