Tigers sit in first place in the SCOL; defeat Panthers

GREENFIELD — The McClain Tigers defeated the Miami Trace Panthers 11-6, Friday evening at Mitchell Park.
The victory places the Tigers on top of the South Central Ohio League with a 7-3 record. The Panthers fall to 6-4 in the SCOL.
McClain struck early with three consecutive doubles.
Logan Wise opened the game with a double to centerfield. Zack Mullikin plated Wise with a double of his own. Mullikin was doubled in by Jon Johnson, and Johnson scored on a single by Zach Uhl.
Uhl advanced to second on a passed ball and moved to third on a ground ball by Dustin Taylor. Caleb Gregory struck out, but the ball was dropped by the MT catcher who threw to first allowing Uhl to score from third.
The Panthers responded by scoring five runs in the fourth inning.
McClain starting pitcher Austin Wilson was removed in that same inning, replaced by Jacob Dillon.
Dillon picked up the win for the Tigers in four innings of work on the mound. Dillon allowed one run (earned), while allowing only two Panther hits. Wilson worked three innings, allowing five runs (one earned) one walk and five hits. Wilson struck out one.
With the score 6-4, as the Tigers trailed in the bottom of the fourth, the MHS bats came back to life.
The Tigers took the lead with a four-run inning and added one run in the fifth, along with two runs in the sixth.
The play of the game occurred in the top of the fifth.
With the bases loaded and nobody out for Miami Trace, Campbell hit a fly ball to Mullikin in right field. The senior outfielder caught the ball and fired a strike to catcher Caleb Cooper who applied the tag at the plate. The Panthers were unable to score after that.
McClain was led at the plate by Wise (2-for-4, Mullikin (2-for-3), Johnson (2-for-4, three RBIs), Uhl (2-for-4, triple, three RBIs), Gregory (2-for-4, two RBIs), Jimmy Barnett (2-for-3, double).
The Tigers now stand at 16-6 overall, 7-3 SCOL will host the Madison-Plains Golden Eagles on Monday at 5 p.m.
