COLUMBUS — Luis Rivas achieved his goal, while Felicity Peabody gained valuable experience at the 2011 OHSAA Track & Field Championships in Columbus over the weekend.
Two days before the meet, Rivas said he wanted to have a good finishing spot at state.
Rivas, a junior, finished in seventh place overall in the state, in Division II, with a final time of 49.83 on Saturday. In the prelims on Friday, Rivas ran a 50.92.
The winner of the event was Damian Winner of Versailles with a time of 48.04.
Rivas was the second-highest-placing junior, as Dareyus Peterson of Col. Eastmoor was sixth at 49.77.
The top five spots in Division II were all seniors.
Headed to the state event, Rivas was third at the regionals with a time of 50.92. At the district meet, he ran a time of 50.18 for second place, and in the South Central Ohio League meet, he won with a time of 50.24.
Peabody, a sophomore, ran in the prelim race on Friday, finishing with a time of 61.37 for eighth place in the second heat of the prelim event. Overall, she finished 14th in the state in Division II.
At the SCOL meet, she won the 400m dash with a time of 1:01.40. At the district meet, in Washington C.H., she finished with a final time of 1:00.78. At regionals, in the finals, she had a time of 1:01.29.[[In-content Ad]]
