Tigers fall in OT to Golden Eagles
MT. STERLING – The McClain Tigers took the Madison-Plains Golden Eagles to the brink of defeat Tuesday night at MPHS, but in the end the Golden Eagles scored just enough points in the overtime period to keep their perfect record alive as they defeated the Tigers 64-61.
McClain (1-1, 2-2) trailed by eight points (16-8) after the first quarter, but battled back in the second eight minute period to cut the Golden Eagle lead to 31-22 to end the first half.
In the second half the Tigers outscored MP 12-8, making the score 39-34. In the final quarter the Tigers burst out for 19 points, while the Golden Eagles netted 14 to end regulation tied at 53.
In overtime MHS was held to eight points, while the Golden Eagles swooped in with 11 to take the South Central Ohio League win.
Warner had 15 points, while Henry had 14 for MP.
MHS senior Kameron Mace led the Tigers with 15 points. He made the Tigers’ lone 3-pointer. Senior Lucas Polley gained 13 points with nine free throws.
McClain senior Caleb Gregory and junior Zach Matracia each scored 11 points. Senior Logan Wise had eight points in the OT game. McClain senior L.T. Walters finished with three points.
The loss drops MHS to 2-2 overall, 1-1 in the SCOL. MP is a perfect 4-0, 3-0 in SCOL play.
MHS was 20 of 53 from the field shooting, while the Golden Eagles finished 22 of 55.MP had a total of 43 rebounds, and the Tigers gained 35 boards. Matracia led MHS with 14 rebounds to record a double-double.
The Tigers had 12 steals, with Polley finishing with three.
MHS shot 77 percent from the free-throw line finishing 20 of 26.
MP was forced into 15 turnovers by the Tigers. MHS committed 14 turnovers.
McClain will be back in action Saturday as they host London in an SCOL matchup at McClain High School.
