Tigers boys golf starts season off strong

GREENFIELD — The 2011 McClain Tigers have hit the links for their latest season, starting the year at 12-2 overall in team wins, with a South Central Ohio League mark of 1-0.

On Tuesday, Aug. 9 the Tigers hosted the McClain Invitational at the Buckeye Hills County Club, winning their host event.

For the day the Tigers went 9-0 in non-league matches, and 1-0 in the SCOL. The Tigers' front nine scores against the Madison-Plains Golden Eagles were used for SCOL play for a match the was originally scheduled for later this season.

The Tigers in the McClain Invitational were led by J.T. Bunner who shot a 74 for the low score of the entire event. The Tigers finished with a team score of 325, winning by five strokes over second-place Southeastern (330).

Jacob Branham and Adam Sharp each shot an 83, followed by Seth Willman with an 85. Aaron Sharp finished with a 92 and Ryan Perie shot a 102.

Also in the McClain invitational were the Whiteoak Wildcats who shot a 416. Luke Taggert finished with a 95, followed by Nick Wardlow (106), Troy Lanz (107), Blake Trublood (108), Stephen Anderson (109) and Zach Docter (129).

In their season opening event at the Washington County Club in Washington C.H. on Monday, Aug. 8, the Tigers finished in third place out of five teams, going 2-2 on the day.

Washington, finishing with a team score of 326, was led by event medalist Seth Baker with a 73. Michael Penwell had a 78 for the Blue Lions.

Miami Trace finished with a team score of 335 for second place. They were led by Trevor Higgins with a 79.

The Tigers had a score of 340 for the third place spot. Bunner led MHS with a low score of 81. Adam Sharp shot an 82 and Branham had an 89. Perie finished at 88, Willman 90 and Aaron Sharp at 96.

Final team scores for the Blue & White Invitational were:

2. Miami Trace 335
3. McClain 340
4. East Clinton 351
