GREENFIELD - Coming of a 40-point shutout loss to the Clinton-Massie Falcons last week, the McClain Tigers return to McClain Field for their final three games of the season, as they are prepared to host the Miami Trace Panthers Friday night.
The Tigers currently are 1-3 in South Central Ohio League play, and standing in their way are the Panthers who are 3-4 overall, 2-1 in the SCOL.
Miami Trace, on the other hand, is coming off an emotional double overtime win over the London Red Raiders by a 24-21 score, where MT kicked a field goal in the second overtime period. In that game, the Panthers had just four first downs.
The Panthers are led on offense by senior running back Grant Jones. Jones had two big touchdowns in raining conditions for 81 and 64 yards. The senior running back finished the game with 25 carries for 192 yards on the ground against the Red Raiders.
"On offense they are going to establish the run," McClain head coach Randy Closson said. "Miami Trace has two explosive running backs and they are going to try to ground-and-pound you."
Formation wise for the Panthers they will use a full house backfield, with cross action and double ISO. Closson also stated the Panthers will use trap plays and they have a big offensive line.
"They (MT) have thrown the ball maybe three times combined in their last two games, but they will pass sometimes to keep teams honest."
Defensively the Panthers use a 6-2 or 5-2 look depending on the game situation. MT likes to slant, angle and pinch with their defensive line.
"They play aggressive and do a nice job defensively," Closson said. "I compare them to Clinton-Massie with a lot of physical guys on defense. They always have five or six defensive linemen, and they want to create problems for the offensive line."
"After the double-digit SCOL loss last week Closson said his team has to put the game behind them, as Massie is one of the, if not, the best team in the league at 7-0.
"We played well defensively against Massie last week," Closson said. "Just by looking at the score people might not think that, but with our struggles on offense, it kept our defense on the field way too long. We have to get the consistency on offense to help out our defense. Plus, it was outstanding defense by Clinton-Massie."
Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
