SCOL Football Notebook: Week 2 WATCH THE VIDEO

Where should we start this week for the second week of high school football, especially in the South Central Ohio League?
Should we talk about the league having four losses? How about the three teams who gained wins last week? The continued regular-season dominance of the Clinton-Massie Falcons in the regular season?
I want to start out with the fact the SCOL, who were two-games under .500 in non-league games last season, started off with a 3-4 mark after the first week, and this week doesn't get any easier.
Clinton-Massie will travel to Waynesville, Miami Trace will host Wilmington, Hillsboro will host Goshen, the Tigers of McClain will travel to Unioto, the Madison-Plains Golden Eagles travel to West Jefferson, London will be at Hamilton Twp. and the Washington Blue Lions will travel to Circleville.
So who knows what this week will be like, but one thing is for certain … we should have a good glimpse of what the league itself is like once this week's games are complete … right?
• Clinton-Massie (1-0) at Waynesville (1-0)
There is a saying, "To be the man you have to beat the man," and well, nobody since 2007 has beat the Falcons in regular-season play.
Last week, the new-look rushing attack of multiple running backs and the quarterback worked out well for the defending SCOL champions. Their streak has moved to 33 straight wins in the regular season, and this Waynesville team is the same team that dominated the East Clinton Astros 41-7 in Week 1.
Two standouts for CM in the first week were Bayle Wolf running for 92 yards on 29 carries and the quarterback play of Tyler Uetrecht, who had 61 yards on the ground and one passing TD.
Massie won over Blanchester, 34-0, and well, if history says anything, the Falcons should finish Week 2 at 2-0. Since 2005, the Falcons have outscored Waynesville, 222-82.
• Hillsboro (0-1) vs. Goshen (0-1)
Just like I wrote in my preview, one of these teams will leave Richards Memorial Field with their first win of the season.
Neither program is exactly where they want to be, but still, both teams should have a good outing against one another this Friday.
With Goshen and their Wing-T offense and the Indians and their spread formations … well, this can be a game of old school and new school styles.
What will stand out, in my opinion, for a win or loss will be the improvement from the first game to the second game, along with if HHS can stay healthy for an entire four quarters. So far this season, HHS has had two injuries that have cost players their season.
Though I wasn't at their game this past week, I was told by a few people, including head coach Brian Spicer, that the Indians played hard and aggressive, which being a young team was a good thing to hear.
"We've looked at the scouting report, did a walkthrough on Monday and practiced this week," Spicer said. "The neat thing is their excitement … they want to get better and bounce back quick."
• Washington (0-1) at Circleville (0-1)
This game is very intriguing to me for the fact I honestly have no idea what to expect. I thought both teams had the upper hand last week headed into the season opener, but I was wrong.
What Circleville will need to do is hold onto the football much better, losing five fumbles against the Panthers of Miami Trace last week.
The Tigers are looking to offset not only their season-opening loss, but their 4-6 mark from 2010.
Washington didn't have the best of games last Friday either, coming out on the losing end of a 41-13 score to the Logan Elm Braves.
The Blue Lions will have to be more consistent on offense as they were held scoreless for the final three quarters. They ran the ball 50 out of 59 times, and they, too, had problems holding onto the football.
Again, I don't know what to expect from this game.
• McClain (0-1) at Unioto (1-0)
McClain head coach Randy Closson told me his team has rallied and picked each other up this week, as they head into their second game of the season.
Unioto is coming off a good win against Vinton County, and the Tigers are still looking for their first points of the season as they were blanked by the Adena Warriors 31-0 at McClain Field.
MHS had 23 yards rushing and 27 passing, and to be honest, numbers like that will not win football games.
This will be interesting to see what type of team Unioto has, as they like to run the ball too, and MHS allowed 341 yards rushing last week to one of Unioto's league (Scioto Valley Conference) counterparts in the Warriors.
This will be the game I'm covering, and what I'm looking forward to watching is if the offense can overcome some obstacles and go back to Greenfield with a win.
• Miami Trace (1-0) vs. Wilmington (1-0)
I really think this can be the game of the week with a team from the SCOL playing in it. MT gained a big win over Circleville last week, and Wilmington won their season opener on a Saturday over Portsmouth 27-24.
I've watched the Hurricane scrimmage this preseason, and I liked what I saw from them. They look to have a few top athletes, they have good size and they were really good when in the red zone in the scrimmage I watched.
Against Portsmouth, Wilmington quarterback Cody McCune was 9-of-12 for 54 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Damian Tomlinson had 28 carries for 127 yards rushing for the Hurricane.
MT quarterback Jimmy Stroker was 12-of-21 for 112 yards passing, and Clayton Dyer had 29 rushes for 100 yards.
This could end up being a very competitive football game in an old-school SCOL rivalry matchup.
• London (0-1) at Hamilton Twp. (1-0)
One team (Hamilton Twp.) won by four points over Chillicothe, and the Red Raiders of London lost in triple overtime to Urbana, 35-34 on a failed 2-point conversion for the win.
Each team in this game has experienced completely different emotions headed into their second game of the season.
LHS did put up a fight, overcoming a 28-21 halftime defect. Quarterback Dylan Follrod was 16-of-29 for 187 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran for 75 yards. Their leading rusher was Antonio Wilson with 162 yards on 23 carries.
LHS had plenty of offensive yards with 75 plays for 434 yards and five touchdowns.
Hamilton Twp. trailed 23-0 at halftime of their season opener, so they have proven they can overcome adversity early in the season. Their special teams play also stood out with two punt returns for scores in the final 12 minutes.
This is one of those games where anything might happen.
• Madison-Plains (1-0) at West Jefferson (1-0)
Neither team has allowed a single point this season, with MP opening up the season with a 27-0 win over Cedarville and WJ winning 31-0 over Mechanicsburg in their opener.
All 31 points were scored in the final three quarters by West Jefferson. West Jefferson had two rushing and two passing touchdowns last week, with Cody Williams leading the Roughriders with 70 yards rushing on nine carries. He also passed for 160 yards (7-of-10).
