Rude Boyz win 14u TOC title

HILLSBORO — Following a late first pitch and final out into the 11 o'clock hour, the First State Bank Rude Boyz made a bit of history Wednesday evening by winning the 14-and-under Tournament of Champions crown with a 10-2 win over the Washington C.H. Post 25 Eagles at Shaffer Park.
Winning championships isn't something new for some of the members of the Rude Boyz, as multiple players on the team have combined to win five different TOC titles since 2006 on a total of four teams, as the Rude Boyz name now has won two titles, winning the '09 12u tournament. Other team names that are a part of the winning history are the 10u Hillsboro KFC All-Stars ('06) and Hillsboro All-Stars ('07), and the 12u Merchants Bank ('10).
This year, the Rude Boyz went 4-0 with wins against Ohio Surge, Watkins M.S. and two wins against the WCH Eagles, outscoring their opponents by a combined 42-4. To reach the finals, WCH defeated the Hillsboro All-Stars twice and the Babe Ruth 13-14 Chillicothe team. WCH defeated the Hillsboro All-Stars in the first game Wednesday to reach the finals.
Current team members Taylor Anderson, Zach Young, Ryan Lemaster and Alexander VanZant each have four TOC championships. Clay Broughton and Trey Moberly each have three TOC titles. Also with multiple championships is Clyde Snow with two, winning his second title with the win Wednesday.
Those above players were a part of past TOC championship teams that outscored their opponents 70-5, 51-7 and 65-17.
Broughton was named the MVP of the 14u tournament, gaining the win Wednesday with 13 strikeouts in six innings. Broughton was also named MVP in '09 in the 12u tournament. Broughton struck out the side in the second and third innings and ended the final two innings with back-to-back strikeouts.
“Most, if not all, of the guys play on traveling teams during the summer," Rude Boyz head coach David Vanzant said. "They are playing 50 to 60 games a summer, and they all come back together to play in the Tournament of Champions because they get along with each other.”
On Wednesday night, the Rude Boyz trailed 1-0 after the first two innings but rallied back with a five-run third inning for a 5-1 lead. The team added one run in the fourth and four more in the top of the fifth for a 10-1 lead. WCH scored their final run in the bottom of the fifth.
