Redstorm football gears up for 2025 debut with major boost from Denney Enterprises

Although the University of Rio Grande Redstorm football team won’t take the field until 2025, the program is already gaining momentum thanks to a generous pledge from Mike and Vicky Denney and Denney Enterprises.
The Denneys have committed to matching the first $100,000 donated to Rio’s football program, hoping to inspire others to join in and support the team's return.
This exciting development follows the announcement made in April that football would be returning to University of Rio Grande after nearly 75 years. Over the summer, Rio welcomed WVU standout and alum Quincy Wilson as its new head coach, along with a talented group of assistant coaches. The university is now focused on purchasing essential equipment, including jerseys and helmets, and renovating facilities to accommodate the upcoming team.
“We’re thrilled to see growing enthusiasm not just on our campus, but throughout our surrounding communities,” said Ryan Smith, President of University of Rio Grande.
The Denneys contacted Rio with a strong desire to be part of the football program’s revitalization.
“I believe in the transformative power of sports to build character, strengthen communities, and open doors for young athletes,” said Mike Denney. “By supporting this program, we’re proud to help Rio realize its vision of excellence both on and off the field, giving students the opportunity to grow, learn, and compete at the highest level.”
Meanwhile, Coach Wilson and his staff have already started recruiting for the team. More than 20 future Redstorm players are currently on campus this fall, eager to prepare for the 2025 season.
