Reds embarrassing in 5-0 loss to Padres

As Casey Stengel once said, "CAN"T ANYBODY HERE PLAY THIS GAME?" Apparently, our beloved Cincinnati Reds can't. Saturday's 5-0 loss to the San Diego Padres was one of the worst, fundamentally speaking, in recent memory. Not only were the home Reds shut out, they were done in by their own lack of baseball acumen. To recap a few of the Reds' highlights: * Center fielder Drew Stubbs caught a Kyle Blanks fly ball in the sixth inning. Stubbs then tossed the ball into the stands and headed for the dugout. Small problem, there, Rook. Your routine catch was only the second out of the inning. Stubbs should have been benched on the spot. * Brandon Phillips, Jonny Gomes and Johnny Cueto all committed base-running blunders of the Little League variety. Phillips, Gomes and Cueto should have been benched on the spot. If manager Dusty Baker wants to get any control on this team, he has one option: Embarrass those who are embarrassing the team. Bench 'em. On the spot. There is no credible reason why so-called Major League baseball players can't keep track of the outs in an inning. Hell, they only have to count to 3. There's also no reason for the lack of hustle that seems so prevalent on this Reds team. Ol' Casey also said "If anyone wants me, tell them I'm being embalmed." He must have watched a team in New York around 1964 play like today's Reds. [[In-content Ad]]
