HILLSBORO — Post 129 baseball continued their Independence Day weekend with a split of Saturday wooden bat games at Shaffer Park, defeating Findlay Post 3, 2-1 and losing to Portsmouth Post 23, 6-1.
The win and loss on Saturday put Hillsboro at 13-18 overall.
In their first game of the two-day event, Post 129 scored enough runs in the first inning to outscore their opponent.
Ian Adams led off the game with a base hit, then had a steal of second base and third base. With one out, Tucker Hughes walked, and Cody Shaver reached on an error, scoring Adams. Nathaniel Miller hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Hughes.
Adams finished the game with three errors, gaining his third one in the third inning.
The lone Findlay run crossed home plate in the third inning, scoring with two outs. Findlay had two runners on the bases with two outs in the seventh inning, but Tyler Campbell struck out the final batter on a called third strike.
