HILLSBORO — Hillsboro Post 129 gained their first win of the season in their second game of a twin bill against Madison County Post 105 at Shaffer Park by a score of 11-2.
After losing the first game 5-2, the Post 129 squad came back with a new outlook at the plate, gaining nine hits and 11 runs. They also forced three walks.
In the first inning, Bryce Bean and Corey Walker scored the first two runs for the home team, with Bean reaching on a single to lead off the inning. He scored on a sacrifice by Walker. Walker scored on an infield error.
Ian Adams scored the third Hillsboro run in the second inning, as he forced a lead-off walk. He scored on a sacrifice by Taylor Smucker.
Post 129 added two more runs to their total in the fourth inning, with Adams and Matt Steele crossing home plate. Adams reached first on a base hit, and Steele took first on a sacrifice.
In the fifth, Cody Shaver scored Hillsboro's sixth run. Then the Post 129 team had i's most productive inning, plating five runs. Scoring were: Bean, Walker, Shaver, Zach Uhl and Steele.
Jacob Dillon led Hillsboro at the plate at 3-for-3 with two RBIs and one walk. Also adding RBIs were Walker, Uhl, Tyler Campbell and Adams.
Bean went 2-for-3, while Walker, Shaver, Adams and Steele each had one hit.
The winning pitcher was Dustin Taylor, who pitched the complete seven-inning game. Taylor faced 30 batters, allowing no earned runs on four hits and five walks. He struck out two.
Madison County scored both of their runs in the second inning.

Lima Post 96 defeats Hillsboro, 21-15
LIMA — Both teams combined for 43 hits and 36 runs, but it was the Hillsboro Post 129 squad that came out on the losing side, falling to Lima Post 96, 21-15 Friday in a scheduled nine-inning game.
Post 129 scored four runs in the third, five in the fourth, one in the eighth and five in the ninth for their 15 total runs.
Cody Shaver, Taylor Smucker and Tyler Campbell each had four hits, with Shaver going 4-for-5 with a double and four runs. Smucker went 4-for-6 with one run and one RBI. Campbell went 4-for-6 with one run and two RBIs.
Bryce Bean, Corey Walker and Tucker Hughes each had three hits. Bean had two RBIs.
Stephen Pappas had one hit and one RBI.
The Hillsboro scoring began with Bean, Walker, Shaver and Hughes all scoring in the third inning.
Post 129 followed with their five-run fifth inning with Bean, Shaver, Hughes, Campbell and Smucker all crossing home plate. In the inning, Campbell and Bean each had two RBI base hits.
In the eighth, Shaver scored, and Post 129 added five more runs with Luke Meyer, Bean, Walker, Shaver and Hughes all scoring.
The loss was charged to Nathaniel Miller. Miller pitched four innings, allowing nine runs (five earned) on 12 hits and no walks. He faced 25 batters. Casey Jordan and Dillon pitched in relief. Both Jordan and Dillon had one strikeout. Jordan allowed seven runs (five earned), and Dillon allowed five runs (four earned).

Hillsboro swept by Braves in Sunday doubleheader
COLUMBUS — The Post 129 team lost a doubleheader on Sunday, falling to the Columbus Braves by scores of 9-2 and 9-5.
Hillsboro scored their two runs in the first inning with Bryce Bean reaching the bases on a lead-off error. Walker then singled, moving Bean to second. Both runners scored on a single by Tucker Hughes, for two RBIs.
In the game Post 129 left runners stranded on the bases in six of the seven innings played, as Hillsboro finished with eight hits from eight different players.
Gaining hits for Hillsboro were Bean, Walker, Cody Shaver, Hughes, Tyler Campbell, Casey Jordan, Matt Steele and Luke Meyer.
The loss was charged to Matt Carey. Carey pitched four innings, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on six hits and six walks. He had one strikeout. Jordan pitched two innings of relief, facing seven batters. He allowed no runs, no walks and one hit.
Columbus scored four runs in the first innings, followed by one run in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Post 129 lost 9-5.
The Braves scored one run in the first, three in the second and one in the third. In the fourth, they added another run and did the same in the fifth. In the sixth, Columbus scored two more runs.
Steele was charged with the loss for Post 129. He pitched 3 2-3 innings, facing 19 batters, while allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and one walk. Campbell pitched 2 1-3 innings of relief. He faced 14 batters, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk.
Post 129 scored two of the five runs in the first inning, with Hughes and Shaver scoring the runs. They scored on a base hit by Miller.
Hillsboro added two more runs in the fifth, with Hughes and Shaver scoring the runs again.
The final Post 129 run came in the seventh with Shaver scoring his third run. Shaver finished 2-for-2 with one walk.
