Patriots fall in tournament opener

Despite a five-point lead at halftime, the host Southern State Patriots were unable to hold on in the final minutes of an OCAC tournament game Saturday, Feb. 16, falling to Ohio Mid-Western, 90-75.

The Patriots led 45-40 at the half, but a 50-point effort by Ohio Mid-Western and a game-high 27 points by Matt Nichols gave them the winning edge.

Tyler Jimison led the Patriots with a team-high 24 points, including four three-pointers and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. Kraig Unger followed with 20 points. Tyler Knabb added 17 points and two three-pointers. Blake Blevins finished with seven points.


[[In-content Ad]]Also scoring for the Patriots were Curt Wesp with five points and Joe Michael with two.
 
The Patriots were 15-of-21 from the free-throw line, shooting 71 percent. They finished with eight three-pointers.

Sixty-eight of Ohio Mid-Western's 90 points were two-pointers. OMW finished with one three-pointer and were 20-of-28 from the free-throw line (71 percent).
