Patriots drop game to Sinclair
Even with five players scoring in double figures the Southern State men’s basketball team dropped a game earlier this week, as they were defeated by Sinclair Community College 112-96 at the Patriot Center in Hillsboro.
Sinclair had seven players gain at least 10 points in the win over the Patriots.
Southern State’s Jeremy Bennington led all scorers with 28 points, scoring 10 two-point baskets and going 8 of 15 from the free-throw line. Bennington had 16 second half points.
Tirrell Cumberland netted 17 points for the Patriots, finishing 11 of 12 from the free-throw line. Carter Nehaus scored 13 for SSCC and Tyler Jimison earned 11. Also scoring 11 points for the Patriots was Josh Hawk.
Andrew McKay and Devon Smith each scored eight points for SSCC.
Sinclair out scored the Patriots 58-43 after the first half, and 54-53 in the second half.
SSCC was 30 of 41 from the free-throw line, making 33 shots from the floor. The Patriots had zero 3-point baskets. Sinclair sank five 3-pointers.
Jason Clardy led Sinclair with 20 points, making nine field goals and two free throws. British Alexander and Damon Dillard each netted 16 for Sinclair. Dillard made three 3-point shots.
Sinclair made 40 shots from the floor and finished 17 of 26 in foul shooting.
