Panthers pick up gold football in 1985

The final 1985 SCOL standings were:
Miami Trace – 5-0, 6-4*
Washington – 4-1, 5-5
Wilmington – 3-2, 3-7
Circleville – 2-3, 2-8
Hillsboro – 1-4, 4-6
McClain – 0-5, 0-10
(* Miami Trace had been forced to forfeit a couple of non-league games for using an ineligible player, early in the season.)
When the All-Southeastern District team was named, Kevin Kirkpatrick of Miami Trace and Logan quarterback Keith Myers were named Co-Backs of the Year, and MT split end Mark Matthews was named Lineman of the Year in AAA.
In addition, guard Jeff Hobbs and sophomore center Joe Henry, both of Miami Trace were named to the first team Class AAA offensive team, and Miami Trace tackle Doug Patton was named to the defensive team.
Several other SCOL players were named to the second teams and to honorable mention.
The SCOL annual fall sports banquet was held Nov. 14 at Washington Senior High School. Miami Trace received the gold football, symbolic of an undefeated SCOL season and a league championship.
