Noll leads Mustangs to 77-67 win at North Adams

SEAMAN – Senior Dylan Noll scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs to a 77-67 win over the North Adams Green Devils Tuesday, Feb. 1.
In a game highlighted by free throws, the Mustangs overcame a 10-point first half deficit to defeat North Adams for the second time this season.
Prior to the game, North Adams High School paid tribute to longtime southern Ohio radio sports announcer Ernie Blankenship. Head Coach Dave Young presented a plaque and a North Adams jersey with the number 52 to Ernie, in recognition of his 52 years on WSRW and WCHO Radio.
"Ernie's been with us for many years, including in 1993 when we were snowed in at the Ohio University Inn in Athens for three days," Young told the crowd. "Personally and professionally, I'd like to thank Ernie for all he has done for us."
Coach Young then designated Mr. Blankenship as the Green Devils' honorary coach against the Mustangs. Mr. Blankenship sat throughout the first half on the North Adams' bench alongside Young and coaches Nathan Copas and Rob Meade.
After the pregame ceremony, the Devils quickly took control and built an 18-12 first-period edge. Balanced scoring that included 3-pointers from Kris King and Drew Mitchell, plus six first-quarter points by Caleb Harper and four more from Sheridan Carroll gave the Devils the early lead.
The Mustangs tied the game at 5-5 after a trey by Tyler Davidson. It was all even at 7-7 with 4:20 on the clock when Steven Collins hauled in an offensive rebound and stuck it in for two points.
In the final 1:25 of the quarter, though, baskets by Mitchell and Carroll followed by a Carroll steal and layup gave North Adams an 18-10 advantage before Noll laced a 10-footer just before the end of the period.
Drew Dollich started the scoring in the second frame by converting a reverse layup off the glass, with an assist from Mitchell.
For much of the second period, the Devils maintained an 8 to 10-point lead. And with 3:13 remaining, Dollich found Carroll for a 2-pointer that put the home team up, 30-20.
But Jason McLaughlin's Mustangs weren't done. They finished the half on a 12-5 run to get right back in the game. The comeback started on a trey by Dallas Puckett off a Davidson assist at the 2:57 mark. Noll then grabbed an offensive board and banged in two more to cut the margin to 30-25. Noll then scored another six points to close out the second period, leaving Lynchburg-Clay down by only three at 35-32.
There were 22 fouls called in the first half, alone.
In the third quarter, a 3-pointer by Davidson gave the Mustangs their first lead and the comeback was on. The Mustangs rallied to take a 55-51 lead through three periods and held on for the 10-point win.
In addition to Noll's 21 points, including the last eight LC points of the first half, the Mustangs got 16 points from Davidson, 14 from Austin Fawley and seven from Puckett.
Dollich paced North Adams with 16 points, followed by Harper with 14, King with 10 and Carroll with nine.
In reserve action, North Adams won, 53-48, as Devin Gardner scored 10 points. Andrew Valentine added eight points and David Shipley and Nathan Beasley each scored six for the Devils.
Gage Waits led the Mustangs with 19 points and Matt West scored 10.
