DODSONVILLE — Needing just four hits, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs defeated the Ripley Blue Jays, 3-2, Thursday night at LCHS, notching another Southern Hills League victory.

The Mustangs won with an RBI from Gage Waits, who forced a bases-loaded walk, scoring Joey Butler in the eighth inning.

LC began the eighth with a walk by Butler, followed by a walk forced by Ryan Doss. Dallas Puckett loaded the bases with a single, then came the aforementioned walk by Waits that won the league game.

The win was the second in as many days as LC defeated the West Union Dragons the previous day at LCHS.

Against the Blue Jays, Colin Creek was 1-for-4 with one run and one steal. Doss went 1-for-3 with a double and walk. Gage Waits forced two walks on the day.

"Ripley had a really huge turn-around for their program," LC head coach Garyn Waits said. "They have a huge roster, motivated kids and backed it up with a fine performance on the mound from Brad Kirschner."

Kirschner threw 7 complete innings. Offensively, the Blue Jays had five hits.

Scott Cawood went five innings on the hill for LC, allowing two earned runs on four hits. He finished with three strikeouts; finishing with 52 pitches.

The win was credited to Doss. Doss pitched the final three innings, allowing no runs and just one hit. He struck out five batters, throwing 40 pitches.

"We really had a different approach from the night before," Waits said.[[In-content Ad]]
