DODSONVILLE – In a game shortened by darkness, the Lynchburg-Clay boys soccer team brightened up their season with another win, as they defeated the West Union Dragons 4-1 at Lynchburg-Clay High School.

The Southern Hills League contest consisted of a 35 minute first half and 25 minutes second half.

That was more than enough time needed for the Mustangs to take the win, as they scored two goals in each half.

“We had good effort against an improved West Union team,” Lynchburg-Clay coach Dennis West said. “We gave up an early penalty kick, but only allowed three shots the rest of the game.”

The Mustangs trailed early at 1-0 when Chris Armstrong netted a penalty kick with 23:29 left in the opening half.

Sophomore Tyler Davidson tied the game at 1-1 when he beat the Dragon defense for his first goal of the game.

Lynchburg-Clay took the lead when Wesley Pierson beat multiple defenders for a goal with 10:54 left in the first 40 minutes of action at LCHS.

In the second half, senior Wes Yeomans netted a goal with 24:47 left in regulation a he kicked a corner kick directly into the goal.

Davidson scored the final goal, his second, of the game, off a corner kick from Brandon McCarthy with 23:00 left in the game.

Colin Creek had two saves for L-C at keeper. Ryan Bear finished with seven stops for West Union.

L-C finished the SHL contest with 22 shots at goal.

“Our pressure led to three of the four scores,” West said. “It was a much better performance by our offense than what we’ve had in our last three matches.”

The win lifts L-C to 5-1-2 overall, 2-1-0 in league play.
