FAYETTEVILLE — On Friday, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs fell to the Fayetteville Rockets 63-53 in a Southern Hills League game at Fayetteville.

The loss puts the Mustangs at 5-4 overall and 1-3 in the league. West Union moves to 3-8 overall.

The Mustangs fell behind 18-9 the first quarter and played catch-up for the remainder of the contest.

"Wes Pierson sprained his ankle in practice on Wednesday, and his absence really hurt us, especially on the defensive end," LC head coach Jason McLaughlin said.

Tyler Davidson led the Mustangs with 19 points. He was followed by Alec Smith with 15, and Ryan Inman had 13.

LC had the game within one point at 43-42 in the fourth quarter but were unable to get some key stops and buckets towards the end.

The Mustangs will play again on Tuesday as they host the West Union Dragons at LC in an SHL matchup.
