Mustangs avoid no-hitter; fall to Rockets

The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs narrowly, but did, fight off a no-hit attempt by the Fayetteville Rockets, falling to their Southern Hills League foe, 5-0 in a shutout loss.

Terry Campbell took the loss for LC. Campbell (1-2) allowed four runs, with three strikeouts, one walk and one hit batter. He pitched 5 1-3 innings.

Ryan Doss pitched 1 2-3 inning of relief for LC. He struck out one and gave up one run.

Lynchburg-Clay's Chaz Lanier drew a walk with two outs in the sixth inning, breaking up the perfect game.

Joey Butler got the only hit of the evening for LC with two outs in the seventh inning.

"We hit the ball somewhat solid, but it just always went at someone ... or they made a tremendous play," LC head coach Garyn Waits said.

Peters, pitching for the Rockets, went seven innings, allowing one hit and one walk against 22 batters. He allowed no runs.[[In-content Ad]]
