Before Tuesday's game, the seniors of the Hillsboro Lady Indians' volleyball team were honored.

Seniors for HHS are Monique Burns, Keri Dobbs, Kelsey Dunham, Ashley Sanders, Mallori Ferguson and Ally Tokar.

During the match, the Madison-Plains Lady Golden Eagles and HHS went toe-to-toe for two of the three sets, but in the end, it was MP who swept HHS in three sets for the South Central Ohio League win.

MP (6-5, 10-9) won by scores of 25-20, 25-11 and 25-21.

For the Lady Indians (3-18), Sanders led with four kills and three assists. Burns had five back row attacks, two for kills.

The first set was a close contest, with the score being tied five times, with the final time being at 11-11. McCaylee Priest got a big hit to tie the set at 11.

At one point in the first set, HHS scored five straight points for a 7-3 lead, scored by Tokar (an ace), Sanders and Dobbs.

MP rallied back with points from Debra Browning and Nikki Moller for a 16-12 lead. HHS didn't back down, making the score 16-14 with help from Sanders and Autumn Hacker.

Later in set one, MP jumped to a 22-18 advantage as Rickelle Davis and Abby Finney scored for the Lady Golden Eagles. The final HHS point of the set was scored by Casey Dunham. The set ended with HHS hitting the ball out of bounds for the 25th MP point.

Set two wasn't as close as the first set, with MP winning 25-11.

Hacker put HHS up 1-0 to start the second set, but the score was quickly tied at 2-2.

That was the only time the score was tied in the set.

HHS cut the lead of MP down to 8-6 with an ace by Sam Gallimore. After that, MP took leads of 20-9, 21-10 and 22-11. The final HHS point was an ace by Hacker.

The Lady Indians dropped the third set 25-21.

Hillsboro led three times in the set at 12-11, 13-12 and 15-14.

At one point in the set, MP led 6-3, starting with the first three points.

But in the end, an out-of-bounds serve gave MP the 25 points needed to win the set and match.

"We struggled with our serve returns," HHS coach Niki Dunham said. "We did better (Tuesday) than we did in the game on Monday."

The night went back to the seniors.

"We had two seniors return to the varsity program this season in Kelsey and Ashley," Dunham said. "Mallori had shoulder surgery, so she hasn't been able to play this season. Monique really stepped up her play, while Ally and Keri have done a great job this season. The girls played with all the heart in the world."[[In-content Ad]]
