In the first matchup, the Tigers were pitted against the home squad, starting out at the 106-pound weight class. Kylee Stroud received a forfeit, making the score 6-0, McClain. Neither team had 113- or 120-pound competitors, as the score remained 6-0.

Mount Healthy received a forfeit at 126 pounds, tying the score at 6-6. Coty Barnhart (132) lost by a technical fall, giving the Owls an 11-6 lead. Ethan Paul (138), a freshman, lost by pin in the first period, putting the Tigers down 17-6.

At 145 pounds, first-year wrestler Isaac Savage lost by pin, putting the Owls up 23-6. McClain got back on the winning track at 152 pounds when Cody Black, bumping up a weight class, won by an 11-6 decision, giving the Tigers three points (23-9).

Joe Unger (160) continued McClain's winning ways, with a major decision 18-4.

With the team score at 23-13, Roscoe East (170 pounds), who returned to the wrestling mats this year following a year on McClain's basketball team, got the Tigers their first pin. With the Tigers even closer (23-19), Mount Healthy received a forfeit at 182 pounds (MHS trailed 29-19).

The Tigers had three weight classes left to make up the ten points, with Jake Branham, fighting off his back after an initial throw by his opponent, getting back to his feet and returning by throwing his opponent to his back. When given the opportunity to pin, Branham did so, bringing the Tigers to a 29-25 deficit.

Gary Ryan, bumping up a weight class and wrestling at 220 pounds, pinned his opponent in the first period, giving the Tigers the lead again, 31-29.

With only the 285-pound weight class left, the Tigers' winningest wrestler, Brandon Davis, bumped up a weight class to anchor the Tigers' chances for victory.

Davis secured the comeback with a first period pin, giving the Greenfield squad their tenth victory of the season by a final score of 37-29.

Their next matchup would be a lopsided victory as McClain prevailed 54-6 against Walnut Hills.

McClain has a season record of 11-8 and is 0-4 in the SCOL.

Individually for McClain, every wrestler got their hand raised in victory at least once.

Winning both matches were: Kylee Stroud, Cody Black, Joe Unger, Roscoe East, Jake Branham and Gary Ryan. Ryan eclipsed the 20-win mark on the season. He is currently 21-7.

Winning one match each were: Coty Barnhart, Ethan Paul, Isaac Savage and Brandon Davis.

Up next for McClain is their final league tri-match, as they try to secure their first league victory against Madison-Plains and the host team Clinton-Massie on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. The JV and junior high squads will also be competing that night.
