McClain handled by Lady Blue Lions in 3 games

GREENFIELD — It was a quick night for the McClain Lady Tigers and Washington Lady Blue Lions as the visitors from Washington C.H. took three straight games over MHS for the South Central Ohio League win.
Washington won by scores of 25-11, 25-17 and 25-7 to improve to 9-5 overall and 5-1 in the SCOL. Washington's lone SCOL loss came to Madison-Plains as the Lady Blue Lions snapped a three-match losing streak, including two losses over the weekend.
The loss drops the Lady Tigers to 6-6 overall and 1-4 in the SCOL.
"We've been working on passing and moving our feet, and we just didn't put it together tonight," McClain coach Emma Gall said. "Sasha did a good job setting, she stepped up and did the setting for us and did it well.
"If we continue to work on our passing and just settle down, we can improve on tonight. Right now it is a mental thing for us, and we just need to put it all together and play our game, instead of everyone else's game."
In the first game, Washington at one point led 17-2, mostly due to the Lady Tigers being able to keep their returns and hits in play. The Lady Blue Lions took a 21-6 lead with an ace from Sara Lentz and powerful spike by Carly Laswell. Washington ended the match by scoring three consecutive points for the 25-11 game one win.
Game two was the closest of the three games, as Washington coach John Buyer said his team tried some different things in the game.
"This was a good night for the girls. They are coming off an 0-3 week, so for them to pull it together the play was really good. We're glad for tonight and glad that what we do in practice worked.
"We are trying some new things, and you probably saw some of it in the second game. We are trying to relax a bit and just play."
In the second game, the Lady Tigers had tied scores at 2, 3, 4 and 5, but a hit by Laswell put Washington up 6-5. Trailing 7-5, McClain's Brittany Mullikin scored a point, but more out-of-play hits along with a spike by Katie Depugh put the Lady Blue Lions ahead 16-9. MHS broke up the scoring with another point by Mullikin, eventually coming within two points of tying the game with, again, Mullikin coming up big for McClain.
Though MHS rallied, it was the Lady Blue Lions who pulled away scoring six straight points, including an ace from Tori Merritt and spikes by Laswell to secure a 25-17 game-two win.
In game three, the Lady Blue Lions gained a 6-2 lead that included a point from Molli Shaw, an ace by Kelsey Dugan and a block at the front of the net by Depugh.
The score went to 8-3 with a point by Depugh off a serve and 11-3 when Shaw scored with an ace.
McClain's Logan Greene stopped the Washington scoring to make it a 12-4 game, but the closest MHS could get was seven points a they dropped the third game 25-7.
The Lady Tigers will be back in SCOL play on Tuesday when they host the Madison-Plains Lady Golden Eagles at 5:30 p.m.
