McClain earns 13th win, defeats Eastern Beaver

GREENFIELD — After receiving a No. 4 seed in the upcoming sectional tournament on Sunday, the McClain Lady Tigers took the court on Monday, and 32 game minutes later, they walked off the court as winners for the 13th time this season.

The Lady Tigers, who have four straight wins, scored in double digits in three of the four quarters played, en route to a 57-42 non-league win over the Eastern (Beaver) Lady Eagles at MHS.

MHS (13-5) not only won their sixth non-league game of the season but held the visiting Lady Eagles (12-6) to single-digit scoring in the second and third quarters, enough to defend their home court.

McClain ended the first frame with a 19-12 advantage and at the half led 31-19 after outscoring the Lady Eagles 12-7.

Each team was even at eight points in the third frame, and in the final eight minutes, MHS won the quarter 18-15.

Lady Tiger freshman Shania Massie finished with 18 points, including one 3-pointer and two converted free throws.

Sammy Rooks finished with 16 points, including two 3-pointers, and senior Brittany Mullikin followed with 10 points.  

Also scoring for the Lady Tigers was Kaitlyn Faulconer with five points, along with Taylor Faulconer and Jenna Perie each with four points. Kaitlyn Faulconer made one 3-pointer.

In the loss to MHS, the Lady Eagles had their three-game winning streak broken. The Lady Eagles were led by Kayla Alley and Brittany Mounts each scoring with 11 points. Chandler Brown followed with eight, and Cassidy Roney finished with seven points.


[[In-content Ad]]From the field, the Lady Tigers shot 41 percent at 24-of-59, and Eastern was 15-of-37 for 37 percent.

MHS will play a makeup game on Wednesday when the host the Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons. CM leads the South Central Ohio League with a league mark of 9-1. MHS is in a tie for second place at 7-3.

GAME NOTES: From the free-throw line, MHS was 4-of-7 (57 percent) … Eastern from the charity stripe was 12-of-18 (67 percent) … MHS tallied the following: 15 turnovers, 18 fouls, 20 rebounds, 16 steals and five assists … Eastern tallied the following: 24 turnovers, nine fouls, 19 rebounds, three steals and one assist.
