McClain dominates Warriors
GREENFIELD – It was all McClain Tigers Saturday night at the “Home of Championship Basketball” as they held the Adena offense at bay, while bursting out double-digit point totals in the first three quarters, defeating the Warriors 58-30 in non-league play.
Eleven Tiger players chipped into the scoring column with at least two points. Senior Lucas Polley led MHS with 16 points, making six shots from the floor and three free throws. Polley had four of the 14 McClain steals.
Junior Zach Matracia netted a total of 15 points for the Tigers, making five two-point baskets and five free throws. Matracia had a double-double as he had a game-high 10 rebounds.
MHS senior Logan Wise scored six points, making one 3-pointer in the win. Seniors Zack Mullikin and Nik Beatty each tallied four points. Sophomore Cameron Cooper sank a 3-ball for his points in the game.
Scott Balzer (who had three assists), L.T. Walters, Taylor Scarberry, Jared Loftis and Aaron Pryor all scored two points for the Tigers.
MHS was 13 of 16 from the free-throw line, making 21 total field goals. The Tigers finished with a shooting percentage of 41 percent going 21 of 51.
The Tigers controlled the opening quarter finishing the first eight minutes with a 17-3 lead. The Tigers compiled a 19-point second quarter for a 36-11 advantage after two quarters.
MHS held Adena, who have yet to win a game, to eight points in the third quarter, while scoring 16 points of their own to take a 52-17 lead. Adena won the fourth 13-6.
The Warriors shot 32 percent form the field at 11 of 33 and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line.
John Cottrill led AHS with 11 points.
MHS (5-4) grabbed 28 rebounds with AHS gaining a total of 15. The Tigers forced 27 turnovers, while committing 17.
The Tigers will play again on Saturday, Jan. 16 as they travel to take on the Washington Blue Lions.
