McClain baseball falls in sectionals

THORNVILLE — Producing runs in just one inning, the McClain Tigers were forced out of the Division II SE District Sectional tournament, falling to the Sheridan Generals, 13-3 in six innings, Monday.

Sheridan had nine runs in the first two innings before the Tigers scored their three runs.

The McClain third inning was led off with a walk by Ryan Case, followed by a double by Ryan Duff, who moved Case to third base. Brent Shannon followed with a groundout to score Case for the first MHS run.

Jacob Dillon hit a two-run home run for the final two MHS runs.

With the score 9-3, the Generals added two more runs in the fourth and capped off the game for the run-rule win with one run in the fifth and one in the sixth.

"We just ran into a buzzsaw in Sheridan on Monday," MHS head coach Brandon Streitenberger said. "They could flat-out hit the baseball, and they just out-hit us."

MHS had five hits, with Ryan Perie going 2-for-3. Dillon was 1-for-3 with the home run and two RBIs. Ryan Duff was 1-for-2, and Dustin Taylor was 1-for-3.

The loss on the mound went to Dillon. Taylor pitched in relief, taking over on the hill in the second inning.
Dylan Davey was the winning pitcher.

MHS committed four errors and allowed a total of 14 Sheridan hits, as the host team had just one error.

MHS is 9-11 overall and 5-6 in the South Central Ohio League. They have one regular-season game remaining, at Clinton-Massie on Tuesday.
