Lynchburg-Clay wins 13th game of season, defeat Peebles

PEEBLES — For the 10th time in their past 11 games, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs walked off the court as winners. Their latest win, a Southern Hills League win, came on the road at Peebles, with LC defeating the host Lady Indians 47-41, Thursday.

In their past 11 games, LC has a winning streak of six-straight games, followed with a loss, and they are currently on a four-game winning streak, as they have defeated state-ranked Georgetown, Whiteoak, Eastern Brown and now Peebles.

The Lady Mustangs (8-4, 13-5) have two games remaining in the regular season, with a visit to Fayette County scheduled for Monday (Feb. 6) against the 15-3 Washington Lady Blue Lions, and a home game on Feb. 9 against West Union.


[[In-content Ad]]As for Thursday, the Lady Mustangs led 10-7 after the first frame, but after giving up 18 points to the Lady Indians trailed 25-20 at the half.

LC responded in the third quarter with 16 points, and their defense allowed just six points for a lead of 36-31 with eight minutes remaining in the game.

Lynchburg-Clay kept their lead in the fourth, outscoring PHS, 11-10.

The Lady Mustangs were led in scoring by senior Brooke Hertlein with 21 points. The senior made nine two-point baskets, and was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Hertlein added four assists, three rebounds, three steals and three blocked shots to her game totals. Hertlein finished the night shooting 50 percent from the field.

Junior Emma Setty followed with 10 points, two rebounds and two assists, as the post player made five two-point buckets.

Senior Karen Hilt scored seven points, with two steals and one rebound; while teammate Laney Lewis finished with five points. Lewis added seven rebounds, six assists, four steals and two blocked shots.

Madysyn Creighton and Sarah Rosselott each scored two points, with Creighton tallying one rebound, one steal and one blocked shot. Rosselott added one steal.  Morgan Fittro totaled two steals and one rebound.

For the game, LC shot 37 percent from the field, while tallying 15 rebounds (three offensive), 15 steals, 11 assists and six blocked shots.

LC committed 10 turnovers and seven fouls.
