Lynchburg-Clay scores 40 runs in doubleheader; defeats GMen

    DODSONVILLE - The runs wouldn't stop for the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader with Georgetown. The Mustangs gained a total of 40 runs in the two games, as both team combined for a grand total of 57 runs and 41 hits, as the Mustangs won both ends of the twin bill 15-2 and 25-15.
   In the opener of the twin bill, Ray Doss and Austin Fawley each went 3-for-4 at the plate. Fawley had two doubles, three this total and three RBIs. Doss had four RBIs and one run.
    In the first three innings, the Mustangs scored three times, followed by one run in the second for a 4-0 lead.
    Dalton Cox opened up the ball game by taking first on an error. With one out, Cody Roush reached on the second error by the GMen. Ryan Doss reached first on a fielder's choice and Dallas Puckett took first on an error. Scoring the three runs for the Mustangs were Cox, Roush and Ryan Doss.
    In the bottom of the second, Brad Barger walked and took second base on a passed ball. After the GMen recorded two straight outs, Fawley doubled in Barger. Roush also reached the bases in the inning with a walk.
    The third inning saw Ryan Doss double to start the scoring for LC. After a sacrifice by Puckett moved Doss to third, Wes Pierson hit a sacrifice to score Doss for the four-run advantage. Barger also walked in the inning.
    Then a 10-run inning by the Mustangs put the game out of reach.
    Cox began the fourth with a single, followed with base hits by Fawley, Roush and Ray Doss. Ryan Doss and Puckett each reached on a error all before the first out of the inning was recorded.
    Barger then hit a sacrifice, followed with a walk by Darren Harp. In his second trip to the plate of the fourth inning, Cox forced a walk. Fawley then doubled, and Roush and Ray Doss each singled.
   Scoring in the inning were: Cox (2), Fawley (2), Roush (2), Ray Doss, Ryan Doss, Harp and Puckett.
    In the game, the Mustangs had 10 hits.
    The win was credited to Barger. He pitched five innings, allowing two runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks. Barger struck out five batters.
    At the plate, Roush was 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBIs and one walk. Cox scored three runs, while adding one RBI, one walk and one steal.
    Ryan Doss finished 1-for-4 with three runs.

    The Mustangs pounded out an 11-run inning in the second game of the twin bill as they gained 20 hits and 25 runs for a 25-15 win.
    After two and a half innings the game was tied at eight, with the Mustangs plating eight in the first and the GMen scoring eight times in their first two innings at the plate.
    Scoring in the first for the Mustangs were Cox (2), Fawley, Ryan Doss, Ray Doss, Kris Moberly, Aaron Skaggs, Jake Back and Kyle Yocum. Fawley, Ray Doss, Moberly, Skaggs and Yocum all had base hits. Cox and Fawley also added doubles in the inning.
    The 11-run bottom of the second began with Ray Doss forcing a base on balls. Puckett and Moberly followed with a base hits. Skaggs then forced a walk and Back singled. Yocum hit a sacrifice, followed with the second out being recorded.
   With two outs, Fawley singled, followed with a single by Ryan Doss.
   Ray Doss then blasted a home run for the Mustangs.
   Puckett then walked and Moberly, Skaggs and Back all reached on three straight errors.
    Scoring runs were: Ray Doss (2), Puckett (2), Moberly (2), Skaggs (2), Back, Fawley and Ryan Doss.
    LC added four runs in the fifth with Ryan Doss, Ray Doss, Cox and Puckett all rounding the bases. In the sixth, Cox and Fawley added two runs to their lead.
    Fawley ended the game at 5-for-6 with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs. Cox was 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Ryan Doss had two RBIs and Ray Doss was 2-for-3 with four runs scored. Puckett was 2-for-4 with three runs, while teammate Moberly was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs.
    Skaggs finished 2-for-4 with three runs, including a triple. Back went 2-for-5 with two runs. Yocum had two RBIs and a run.
    LC finished with 20 hits, while the GMen had eight.
    Ray Doss earned the win on the hill. He pitched 1 1-3 innings of relief, with no hits and runs.
    Pierson pitched 1 2-3 innings of relief, allowing four runs (four earned) on three hits and three walks. He struck out two batters.
    Dakota Dye started the game for the Mustangs. He pitched three innings, allowing 11 runs (none earned) on five hits and one walk. Dye struck out three batters.
