Lions win scrimmage over Bearcats

     BAINBRIDGE — In one of the final preparations before their 2010 season begins, the Fairfield Lions produced 13 runs on nine hits for a 13-1 scrimmage victory against the Paint Valley Bearcats Wednesday at Paint Valley High School.
     The Lions not only had production at the plate, but were solid from the mound with pitching performances from Tyler Campbell, Nathaniel Miller and Kyle Carson.
     Campbell, who started the scrimmage, pitched three innings, allowing one run off four hits and one walk. Campbell gained two strikeouts.
     Miller allowed no runs and no hits in three innings. The junior compiled five strikeouts and one walk. Miller faced 10 batters.
     Carson pitched the final three innings of the nine-inning scrimmage. Carson walked three batters, while striking out two and allowing one hit and no runs.
     Fairfield scored one run in the top of the first inning with junior Ian Adams leading off with a single. Bobby Wilson followed with a SAC bunt, advancing Adams to third base. Miller reached first on an error, scoring Adams.
     In the top part of the second Cody Tolle took first on a infield error by the Bearcats. Carson followed by drawing a walk and Austin Hildebrant loaded the bases after he took first when he was hit by a pitch. Tolle scored on a passed ball, followed one pitch later by Carson who touched home plate on another passed ball.
     Still in the top of the second, Adams reached first on a dropped third strike, scoring Hildebrant. Wilson gained an RBI off a base hit, scoring Adams. Campbell reached base by drawing a base on balls.
     Leading 5-1 at the start of the fourth inning Adams forced a walk, and took second after Wilson singled. Campbell then grounded out later in the inning to knock in Adams for a 6-1 advantage. Dakota Hargrave reached the bases on an error by Paint Valley, scoring Wilson.
     The top of the sixth inning saw the Lions gain three runs on two hits. Wilson and Miller each singled, with Miller getting the RBI by batting in Wilson. Campbell took first on a fielder's choice and Hargrave took first on an infield error, scoring Campbell. Tolle reached first on another Bearcat error, allowing Hargrave to take home.
     In the top half of the eighth Miller singled and scored with a triple from Campbell. Hargrave singled home Campbell, followed with Tolle reaching first on an error. Hargrave scored later in the inning on a passed ball.
    Sammy Williams singled and Nathan Hawkins had a SAC bunt in the ninth inning for the Lions.
    Paint Valley finished with six errors and five hits, scoring their lone run in the third inning. The Lions committed one error and had nine total hits.
