Lewis' double-double helps lead Lady Mustangs to victory over Ripley

RIPLEY — Behind a big second quarter effort, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs topped Southern Hills League foe Ripley, 39-28 Saturday afternoon in a makeup game from earlier in the season.
LC led 9-8 after the first frame but scored 15 points in the second quarter for a halftime lead of 24-15.
In the third quarter, LC outscored the Lady Blue Jays, 9-5 for a lead of 33-20. RHS won the final frame, 8-6.
Sophomore Laney Lewis had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Lewis was 7-of-7 from the free-throw line and added one assist, one steal and one blocked shot.
Lillian Blankenship, a senior, scored 10 points for LC, while adding three assists, two rebounds and two steals.
Hannah Blankenship added eight points to the LC total, with seven rebounds, three steals and one assist. Blankenship was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Brooke Hertlein scored six points but had nine rebounds, three steals and one blocked shot.
Meredith Fittro added two points, four rebounds and two steals. Karen Hilt had one one rebound and one steal. Ashley Tenas gained one rebound and one assist.
As a team, LC had 35 rebounds and 18 turnovers, along with a 12-of-19 performance from the free-throw line. LC was 3-of-11 from beyond the arc and 9-of-40 shooting from two-point shots. Overall, LC shot 12-of-51.
