LC gains another SHL win; slay Lady Dragons

WEST UNION — Scoring 31 points in the first half, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs didn't hold back Monday night, defeating Southern Hills League foe West Union, 61-21 at WUHS.

LC held WU scoreless in the opening quarter for an 11-0 lead, then added another 20 points in the second frame for a 31-4 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, LC outscored WU 30-17 with the Lady Mustangs scoring 15 points in each of the final two quarters. In the third, WU scored nine points, and they scored eight points in the final eight minutes.

All nine Lady Mustangs scored points in the SHL win.

Leading LC was the duo of Laney Lewis and Hannah Blankenship, with each player scoring 14 points. Blankenship was 6-of-10 from the field, adding six rebounds, one blocked shot and one assist.

Lewis was 7-of-13 from the field with seven rebounds, six assists, six steals and two blocked shots.

Lillian Blankenship scored 11 points for LC. Blankenship also had nine assists, five rebounds and three steals.

Karen Hilt tallied six points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Brooke Hertlein had four points, nine rebounds, two steals and three blocked shots. Also scoring four points was Ashley Tenas, who was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line with one rebound.

Meredith Fittro and Lisa Rhonemus each scored three points. Fittro grabbed four rebounds and two steals. Rhonemus had four rebounds.

Emma Setty finished with two points and four rebounds.

For the game, LC had 12 turnovers.

LC is scheduled to play again on Tuesday, Feb. 8 as they will host the Washington Lady Blue Lions in a non-league game at LCHS.[[In-content Ad]]
