LC collects 21 runs in win over Ripley

RIPLEY — It is easy to say the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs know the path to home plate after scoring 21 runs, 11 in the sixth inning, for a 21-3 six-inning run-rule Southern Hills League win over the Ripley Blue Jays, Thursday at RHS.
LC led 10-0 after the top of the fifth ended but allowed three runs to prolong the game.
That was all it took for the Mustangs to really put runs on the board.
In the sixth, LC was walked seven times, along with being hit by a pitch on three separate occasions. In the inning, they also had two hits and took advantage of several errors by the Blue Jays for the 11 runs. In the inning, LC sent 17 batters to the plate.
LC hit three home runs, igniting the offense of the Mustangs, their first game in 13 days due to a senior trip and rain-outs.
Leading LC was Dallas Puckett with a 3-for-5 day at the plate, with three RBIs and two steals. Puckett also hit one of the three Mustang home runs.
Chaz Lanier went 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBIs and one steal. Lanier also blasted a home run against the Blue Jays.
Wes Pierson was 2-for-5 with five RBIs, one run, one walk and a home run.
Ryan Doss earned the win on the mound. He pitched five innings, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk. He struck out five. Scott Cawood pitched the sixth inning, facing three batters with one strikeout.
Earlier this year, LC defeated RHS 3-2 at LCHS.
