GREENFIELD – It was a record breaking night for McClain junior Kelsey Davis, as she set a new MHS assists record Thursday, in the Senior Night victory over the Miami Trace Lady Panthers in four sets.

The 40 assists by Davis set the tone for the Lady Tigers as they won their four-set match by scores of 24-26, 25-8, 26-24 and 25-13.

The night also celebrated the careers of four seniors, who played their final regular season game for MHS. The seniors included: Megan Saylor, Kate Hammond, Taylor Delph and Cailey Branham.

After losing the first set to MT, the Lady Tigers rallied back in dominating fashion in set two, winning by 17 points by a score of 25-8.

In the second set MHS started off by winning the first three points, eventually taking a 9-4 lead with a tip by Delph and an out of play hit by the Lady Panthers.

MHS increased their lead to 14-5 with consecutive points scored by Saylor. At one point in the set the Lady Tigers scored nine straight points.

Jenna Perie made the score 23-8 with a point scored late in the set, followed wit the Lady Tigers finishing the set with a serve by Saylor. Perie led MHS in the set with eight points, followed by Saylor and Delph with five points each.

Set three was a little closer for each squad, with the Lady Tigers tying the game at 23 with a big hit from Davis. MT regained the lead at 24-24, but MHS came back to tie the third set at 24 with another timely hit from Davis, who blasted the ball into a open area of the court, before MHS took the 26-24 third set win.

Saylor scored eight points in the third set, with Davis scoring six points. Delph finished with five points and Bean scored three.

The fourth and what would be final set was won by MHS 25-13.

A block by Perie gave MHS an 8-5 advantage, followed with an ace from Bean.

Leading by five points, Delph added to the MHS lead with a dominating spike hit.

Delph, again, added to the Lady Tigers’ lead with a block, and Saylor gained a point with a spike to make the score 17-9.

With a 23-11 cushion, Hammond tallied a point, and MT hit the ball on their own side of the net to seal the match win for McClain.

For the match, Delph led MHS with 17 kills, followed by Saylor with 15 kills, 12 digs and seven aces. Delph also added three blocks. Perie gained 12 digs. MHS finished with 53 total kills.

“It is always good to win on Senior Night,” MHS coach Emma Gall said. “All the girls played well, and we hit well. The girls hit the ball in open areas and played well in front of the net.”

MHS will play again on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at McClain High School when they host a Division II SE District Sectional game against the same Miami Trace Panthers at 6 p.m.
