Lady Tigers sweep Hillsboro

     The McClain Lady Tigers gained a season sweep against cross-county rival Hillsboro Friday night as they defeated the Lady Indians 61-21 in their first meeting at the new Hillsboro High School gym.

     MHS took control of the game in the first quarter as they led 24-6 after the opening eight minutes.

     After the Lady Tigers rotated their entire lineup for the remainder of the game, they led HHS 33-13 after two quarters.

     MHS won the third quarter 19-3, and the final quarter 9-5.

     The Lady Tigers (8-2, 5-1) shot 23 of 60 for 38 percent from the field and 13 of 15 from the free-throw line for 87 percent. The Lady Indians (1-10, 0-6) shot 6 of 29 from the floor for 21 percent. HHS shot 70 percent from the free-throw line at 7 of 10.

     MHS senior Kate Hammond led all scorers with 14 points, making one 3-pointer. Chrissy Cobb followed with 13 points, making one 3-pointer and five two-point buckets. Cobb also led MHS in steals with five and in assists with four.

     Lady Tiger senior Cortney Hyer scored eight points, followed by Jenna Perie with six. Shelby Buck gained five points and Lady Tiger teammate Kate Crabtree scored four.

     Sammy Rooks put down three points for MHS and Savanna Brown, Megan Saylor, Megan Hogle and Alex Taylor each scored two points. Saylor led MHS in rebounds with five.

     For Hillsboro, senior Heather Storer led the Lady Indians with nine points. Fellow HHS senior Shelby Coyle scored five points, followed with Holly Royce scoring three. Jenni Willey netted two points, followed with Julie Shafer and AJ Sanders scoring one point each.

     Coyle and Royce each made 3-pointers for the Lady Indians.

     HHS finished with 39 turnovers, with MHS committing 15. The Lady Tigers out rebounded HHS 30-24.

     MHS will play again Saturday as they host Highland County rival Lynchburg-Clay, with JV play starting at noon.
