GREENFIELD — The McClain Lady Tigers broke a tied score with under two minutes remaining and never looked back, defeating the Zane Trace Lady Pioneers, 51-42 Tuesday night at McClain High School.
The win lifts the Lady Tigers to 7-2 overall, one day removed from a loss to the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs at LCHS.
Gaining the win against ZT, a non-league opponent, wasn't easy for MHS, as the score was tied seven times, including the final time with 1:34 remaining in the fourth quarter at 42. The tie was broken with a free throw by Jenna Perie, and MHS led the rest of the way.
The Lady Pioneers had two technical fouls in the game, but in the first quarter, they were the leaders at 14-10 after eight minutes.
The Lady Tigers' defense was productive in the second frame, holding ZT to seven points, while their offense scored 13.
MHS led 23-21 at halftime.
In the third quarter, ZT outscored MHS 13-7.
