Lady Tigers get back to winning ways, defeat Zane Trace

GREENFIELD — The McClain Lady Tigers broke a two-game skid on Tuesday, using eight different players to put points on the board, en route to defeating the Zane Trace Lady Pioneers 53-34 at ZTHS.
MHS (10-5) recently lost to the Washington Lady Blue Lions and the Jackson Ironladies, but on Tuesday rebounded with their 10th win of the season, and 485th career victory of head coach Dennis Overstake.
The Lady Tigers opened the first frame with a 13-7 lead, followed with a 10-4 second frame for a halftime lead of 23-11.
In the third MHS tallied 16 points to their side of the scoreboard, while their defense held ZT (8-8) to 10 points. In the fourth quarter, MHS outscored ZT 14-13.
MHS shot 23-of-47 from the field (49 percent), while ZT was 14-of-39 for 36 percent.
Shania Massie led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 15 points, as she made one 3-pointer. She was followed by Sammy Rooks (one 3-pointer) and Tara Karnes with nine points each.
[[In-content Ad]]Jenna Perie added six points for MHS, with Taylor Faulconer, Kaitlyn Faulconer and Brittany Mullikin each scoring four points. Kate Crabtree rounded out the scoring with two points.
Leading ZT in scoring, was Jillian Pontius with a game-high 16 points, including four 3-pointers.
MHS was 5-of-12 from the free-throw line (42 percent), while ZT was 1-of-2 (50 percent). ZT's two attempts came in the fourth frame.
The Lady Tigers will play again on Wednesday, when they travel to face the London Lady Red Raiders.
GAME NOTES: MHS had 20 rebounds, 11 fouls and eight turnovers … ZT totaled 11 rebounds, 11 fouls and 14 turnovers.
