GREENFIELD — The McClain Lady Tigers and the London Lady Red Raiders went back onto the field Monday evening to finish what they started on Sept. 7 at McClain Field.
In September, the game was stopped due to weather of heavy rains and lightning.
The game started back with 17:20 left in the first half, with MHS leading 1-0.
That was all the scoring the Lady Tigers would have in the South Central Ohio League contest as the Lady Red Raiders of London defeated MHS, 3-1.
MHS didn't get much pressure on the offensive side once the game resumed.
"We started off good, but it comes down to offensive pressure," MHS coach Darrell Upp said. "We'll have two passes, get into the post and not score. We had a couple of shots that were just a tad bit high, I thought they were going to drop.
"We just put ourselves in a hole we couldn't dig out of."
McClain held a 1-0 lead with a goal by captain Kaitlyn Faulconer with the assist from captain Chrissy Cobb at the 21:22 mark of the opening half in September.
But on Monday, London did all the scoring.
With 4:38 remaining, Shannon Merkley tied the game at one with a goal. LHS quickly took the lead with a goal from Courtney Calwell with 3:32 left in the opening half.
That wouldn't be the last from Calwell.
Calwell scored her second goal of the SCOL contest at the 32:51 mark of the second half for a 3-1, LHS advantage.
MHS keeper Taylor Faulconer helped keep her team in the game, battling off the heavy LHS pressure, with a diving stop at goal with 27:00 left in the second half.
MHS had numerous opportunities to get back in the game with missed goals three times in a span of eight minutes, with the ball sailing over the top of the crossbar.
Lauren Starky made a big stop on defense, deflecting the ball with a side kick, with just under 10 minutes left in the game. Gabby Spornhauer also had a big stop on defense with 2:24 left in the game for MHS.
Following the game, members of the G-SAY soccer league were introduced.
