Lady Patriots soar past Lady Eagles for 1st win of season

HILLSBORO — The Southern State Lady Patriots gained their first win of the 2011-12 season on Tuesday night with a 61-44 victory over Clark State at the Patriot Center.
Leading the way for the Lady Patriots was Whiteoak graduate Kayla Seip with 22 points. Seip scored 14 of her 22 points in the second half, which included a 3-pointer. Seip made nine two-point baskets and was 1-of-1 from the free-throw line.
Hannah Gobin followed with 13 points and Emily Hargett scored 11 points. Gobin sank six field goals and one free throw; and Hargett made four two-point baskets and three free throws.
Nicole Patterson scored six points, both three pointers; Emily Hoop scored five points (one 3-pointer) and Ashley Crone scored four points.
For the game SSCC made 21 field goals, four 3-pointers and finished 7-of-15 from the free-throw line.
At halftime SSCC led 35-16, but were outscored in the second half 28-26.
Kristin Korab led CSU with 18 points as the Lady Eagles were 9-of-15 from the free-throw line and made a total of five 3-pointers. CSU made four 3-pointers two from Korab.
SSCC now stands at 1-4 overall with losses coming against West Virginia-Parkersburg, Miami University-Middletown, Ohio University-Chillicothe and Ohio University-Lancaster.

Against Ohio University-Lancaster, Seip led all scorers with 23 points in the Lady Patriots' 61-37 loss. Seip was 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. Also scoring in the game against OU-L was Emily Hargett (6), Emily Hoop (5), Hannah Gobin (2) and Ashley Crone (1).
SSCC trailed 42-17 at halftime, but outscored their opponent 20-19 in the second half.

Against Ohio University-Chillicothe (Nov. 9) the Lady Patriots lost 72-68 at OU-C in Chillicothe.
Seip led SSCC in scoring with 20 points, followed by Gobin and Nicole Patterson with 15 points each. Hargett finished with 12 points and Hoop scored six.
Of the six 3-pointers made by SSCC, Patterson sank three and Hoop made two. Seip connected with once from beyond the arc in the second half.
SSCC finished with 22 two-point baskets, and were 6-of-10 from the free-throw line. OU-C was 9-of-12 from the free-throw line, while making 30 two-point baskets and one 3-pointer.
OU-C was led in scoring by Cara Thaxton with 26 points and Brittany Lesson with 24 points. Taylor Mullins scored 16 points for OU-C. Also scoring for OU-C was Taylor Corcoran with six points.
