Lady Mustangs win two straight; fall to Hillsboro

DODSONVILLE — The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs soccer team has won their last two matches with wins over the Fairfield Lady Lions and the Miami Trace Lady Panthers. Before their two straight wins, LC fell to the Hillsboro Indians.
In their most recent win, a 4-0 win against the Lady Panthers on Saturday, LC scored two goals in each half to defend their home field.
"This was a very good effort from the entire squad. We were able to use everyone in our rotation," LC coach Dennis West said. "Our defense really played aggressively, and for the second game in a row, our younger players got plenty of playing time."
The first half had Sarah Spidel scoring first at the 27:31 mark of the half as she beat the MT defender for the 1-0 lead.
LC added to their overall total with a goal at the 4:26 mark by Taylor Scott. The assist came with a pass by Lindsey Rosselott.
In the 40-minute half MT scored a goal with 33:02 remaining, giving LC a three-goal lead, and the final goal was by Scott (her second of the game) with the assist by Rosselott with 29:46 remaining.
Senior Shelbi Halverson had for saves at keeper for LC and Sarah Boston had five saves at goal for the Lady Panthers.
LC out-shot MT, 15-10.
The win puts LC at 5-3 overall. They currently have an Southern Hills League record of 2-0.

Lynchburg-Clay 7, Fairfield 0
LEESBURG — On Friday, Sept. 17 the Lady Mustangs defeated Highland County rival Fairfield 7-0, due in large part with a three-goal effort in the first half and four in the final 40 minutes.
Taylor Scott had a hat-trick with three goals in the game, along with two goals by Lindsey Rosselott. Karen Hilt and Breian West also had one goal each in the win.
LC, the visiting team, started their three-goal first half with Scott scoring at the 31:40 mark. The goal came with a corner kick, for an assist, from Meredith Fittro.
Scott added her second goal for a 2-0 lead at the 21:37 mark of the half as she beat a Fairfield defender.
Hilt made the score 3-0 at the 1:52 mark of the first half.
In the second half, Scott kicked a goal, her third of the game, for a 15-yard kick and goal. The goal came at the 37:53 mark of the half.
West gave LC a five-goal advantage with an unassisted goal at the 29:21 mark.
The final two goals (the third and fourth of the second half) came from Rosselott as she beat the Fairfield defense twice for goals at the 5:39 and 1:40 marks of the second half.
Shelbi Halverson had three saves. LC out-shot FHS, 33-3.
"This was a good effort by the girls, but our execution needs to improve," West said. "We have a tendency to play kickball too often."

HILLSBORO — In their first games after the Highland County Fair, the Hillsboro Lady Indians defended their home field against their Highland County rival for a 2-0 win over the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs on Wednesday, Sept. 15.
Scoring for HHS were Lauren Grimes and Madison Colliver with both goals coming in the second half.
Grimes scored at the 17:46 mark in the second half on a 20-yard kick.
Colliver scored her goal with 3:11 left in the game as she beat the defense of the Lady Mustangs.
Shelbi Halverson had six saves at keeper for LC.
HHS out-shot LC, 20-7 in the win.
"We had close, hard play throughout the match," West said. "Hillsboro controlled the last 20 minutes, and we struggled to do much on offense."
