Lady Mustangs gain 8th shutout; blank Peebles

PEEBLES— The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs came back with a vengeance on Monday, defeating the Peebles Lady Indians, 5-0 at PHS.
In their previous game LC tied with Williamsburg, 0-0.
But on Monday, it was back to normal for LC, scoring three goals in the first half, and two more in the final 40 minutes for the five-goal win.
"The girls played a good match after a very lackluster effort against Williamsburg," LC coach Dennis West said. "We need consistent play from our offense as we prepare for the tournament to start."
LC will host West Union in the sectional opener on Monday, Oct. 18. at 5 p.m.
As for the game Monday, LC gained their first goal, on an own goal by the Lady Indians with 37:45 left on the clock in the first half.
Brandi Hunter gave LC a two-goal lead with 23:19 left, with a rebound off the keeper.
The final goal of the first half was scored by Miranda Gorman, on a 20 yard kick over the keeper, with 8:58 left in the opening half.
Karen Hilt scored both times in the second half for the Lady Mustangs. Her first goal was at the 18:40 mark, with the assist from Breian West. Hilt's second goal was off the keeper of PHS with 2:52 remaining in the game.
LC out-shot PHS, 23-7 with Shelbi Halverson tallying five saves for LC. Liz Fulton and Haley Stratton combined for seven saves for Peebles.
"I want to congratulate our defense for their eighth shutout of the season," West said.
LC will host Zane Trace on Saturday in a non-league game.
The Lady Mustangs stand at 10-4-1 overall and 6-1-0 in the SHL.
