Lady Mustang seniors win final home game

DODSONVILLE — On the day where the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustang seniors played their final game in their home gym, the entire LC team wrapped up their 2010-11 regular season in winning fashion.

In their Southern Hills League vs. South Central Ohio League battle, LC topped the Washington Lady Blue Lions, 43-27, Saturday afternoon at LCHS, in a make-up game from earlier this season.

Things didn't go the way of LC after the first frame was completed, trailing by four points at 10-6.

LC (13-7) came back in the second quarter, outscoring Washington, 12-5, for an 18-15 lead at halftime.

LC dominated the third frame at 17-8 and won the fourth, 8-4. The Lady Mustangs led 35-23 after three quarters.

Leading the way for LC was junior Brooke Hertlein with 17 points (8-of-11 from the field) with eight rebounds and one steal.

Laney Lewis, a sophomore, finished with 10 points, six rebounds, two blocked shots, one steal and one assist. From the free-throw line, she went 4-of-7.

All four Lady Mustang seniors contributed to the win. Hannah Blankenship scored four points (one assist) and Lillian Blankenship scored six points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Meredith Fittro scored two points and Lisa Rhonemus had two rebounds.

Karen Hilt, a junior, had four points and two steals.

LC had six turnovers.

The Lady Mustangs' next game will be in Division III tournament action in the SE District Sectionals. LC, a No. 6 seed will take on No. 3 seed Adena at Valley High School in Lucasville, on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
