Lady Indians win on Senior Night

It was a night of celebration at Richards Memorial Field Wednesday evening as the Hillsboro Lady Indian seniors were honored with Senior Night, along with adding a victory to their overall total as they defeated South Central Ohio League counterpart Miami Trace 3-0.
Seniors honored Wednesday include: Taylor Hauke, Breanne Grooms, Paij Shelton, Shelby Coyle, Kaelee Sexton, Miranda Frump, Megan Barnes, Heather Storer, Jen Williams and Midlam.
“This group was a great group to have,” Hillsboro coach Leslie Molen said. “They have been a fun group to work with. They are going to be missed.”
It was the senior class who took grasp of the game early in the first half, with senior Kaelee Sexton passing the ball to senior Jen Williams for the first goal of the contest with 30:38 remaining in the opening 40 minutes.
Seniors again ruled with the second goal by the Lady Indians with Paij Shelton finding Miranda Frump for the 2-0 lead with 28:52 left in the first half.
Hillsboro led by two goals at the half, keeping the shutout alive in the final 40 minutes of action.
The Lady Indians had one goal called back due to a push call by the official near the 21 minute mark, but HHS grabbed a three-goal advantage with 18:19 left in the contest after Jordan Davis netted a goal.
With the shutout still in tact, HHS senior keeper Megan Barnes provided some excitement when she made a save, after regaining her composure when she was knocked down in a collision with a player from Miami Trace, with nearly 15 minutes left in the final half.
The win was the 80th career victory for Molen. Her overall record is 80-15-10.
“We played OK,” Molen said. “We have finished the regular season and have to be prepared for our tournament game next week.”
The No. 3 seeded Lady Indians, who stand at 10-1-3 overall, 7-1-2 in SCOL, will host No. 6 seeded Warren at RMF next Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. in Division I SE District Sectional Tournament play.
