Lady Indians keep on rolling; top Lady Tigers

GREENFIELD — The Hillsboro Lady Indians continued to do what they have all season long … win soccer matches.
Coming off a non-league win on Saturday against the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs, the Lady Indians faced off with another Highland County foe, defeating the McClain Lady Tigers 6-0 at McClain Field, gaining along the way another South Central Ohio League win.
"They (MHS) played better, they've made some improvements," HHS coach Leslie Molen said.
HHS came into this game with two consecutive days off, something they haven't had recently.
"Days off can either work for you or against you. So today we came out a little bit sloppy, but I think the energy level … I'm not going to say we saw the energy on the field, but I think the girls are a little bit more uplifted by having a few days off."
On Tuesday, the Lady Indians shared the wealth as six different players scored a goal.
"Hillsboro had four games last week, and I'm going to say it … they took it easy on us. It's possible because they rotated their bench a lot," MHS coach Luis J. Rivas said. "I know they were fatigued, and maybe they weren't as aggressive as usual."
Hillsboro led 2-0 at halftime as they had goals from Trista Rhodes and Haley McCoppin in the opening half.
"Our passing wasn't too bad … in the second half, we did a better job of it, but we moved the ball well."
Hillsboro's first goal came early in the opening half with Rhodes scoring an unassisted goal to put HHS up 1-0.
The second goal came when McCoppin kicked the ball into the back of the net with the assist credited to Hailey Wisman.
In the final 40-minute half Lauren Grimes, Taylor Stanforth, Taylor Moberly and Kayla Deatley all scored a goal for the Lady Indians.
At the 37:39 mark of the second half, Grimes made it a 3-0 match, followed at the 17:40 mark by a goal by Stanforth. The score increased with 5:00 left on the clock when Moberly put the ball in the net. The final HHS goal came with 34.5 left in the match from Deatley.
Assists in the second half were credited to Kaylee Achor and Jordan Davis.
The score was lower than in their first meeting in Hillsboro as HHS won that match 8-0.
"Taylor (Faulkner) contributed to the score being low because they had a lot of shots on us," Rivas said. "Until the ball got wet, she was stopping almost everything. Once it rained, it got slippery."
Again, Rivas said his team had trouble finishing.
"We didn't finish, and it is a problem. We work on it, but in the field, it doesn't happen," Rivas said. "We work on finishing .. we do … we know it is not one of our strengths.
"It's consistent … we still have four on the disabled list, and it makes it very hard to substitute."
The next match for HHS will be on Thursday when they host the Miami Trace Lady Panthers in a SCOL match. MHS will travel to take on London this Thursday in SCOL play.
