Lady Indians battle, fall to MP

&pThe Hillsboro Lady Indians put up a good effort Friday night, but in the end it wasn't enough for their first win of the year, falling to the Madison-Plains Lady Golden Eagles 55-51 in a South Central Ohio League matchup.
"Our ladies handled the pressure defense well (Friday). We were able to make several big shots, but we were unable to finish late," HHS head coach JR Moberly said. "The effort was very good. We have made strides toward improving and hopefully will continue to do so."
After the first quarter, the Lady Indians trailed by five points at 15-10, but outscored MP 13-9 in the second quarter, going into the half trailing 24-23.
Each team scored 15 points in the third frame, but it was MP who won the final eight minutes at 16-13. HHS led by five with 5:30 remaining in the SCOL game.
HHS senior Jenni Willey led all scorers with a game-high 21 points, gaining a double-double with 14 rebounds.
AJ Sanders followed with eight points. Danielle Gillman and Carey Juillerat each scored six points for the Lady Indians. Sanders also grabbed six rebounds and Juillerat has seven.
Jessica Donahue and Maggie Tamborski each scored four points, and Whitney Earley had two points.
MP made six 3-pointers, as Wilson made three, finishing the game with 20 points.
"We have our work cut out for us, with Washington C.H., Miami Trace and Western Brown all before Christmas, all on the road," Moberly said. "We will continue to take things one day at a time and try to do something a little bit better each day."
The loss drops HHS to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the SCOL. MP is 3-0 overall.[[In-content Ad]]
