Lady 'Cats top rival Lynchburg-Clay

MOWRYSTOWN — Though the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats were the away team on their home field Friday night, none of that mattered, as they bounced back from a loss on the previous day for a 12-0 victory against rival Lynchburg-Clay.
The Lady Wildcats dominated the plate with 13 hits, nine walks and 12 runs for the Southern Hills League win. WHS improves to 5-8 overall and 3-6 in league play.
"We were patient at the plate (Friday)," WHS head coach Brett Malone said. "Our defense played well, and we put together a solid game.
"We've had some troubles at the plate this season … we were pulling everything, but tonight the girls hit a lot of hard shots."
Whiteoak started with two runs in the first, followed with two more runs in the top of the fourth, and for the finale … added three runs in the fifth and five more in the seventh.
In the Whiteoak first inning, Juanita Nichols led off with a single, followed by a walk forced by Haley Bingamon. With one out, Brittini Van Zandt singled, and Brittany Tolliver knocked in runners with a base hit to left field. McKenzee Martin followed with a single, and Mikayla Burns forced the second Lady Wildcat walk of the inning. Scoring runs in the inning for WHS were Nichols and Van Zandt.
WHS added two more runs in the fourth with Burns and Taryn Christy crossing the plate for runs. In the inning, Burns reached with a lead-off walk and Christy hit a single. Haley Bingamon also singled in the inning.
The four-run lead of WHS quickly turned into a seven-run advantage with a three-run fifth inning.
Van Zandt started the fifth with a walk, with Tolliver following with a walk of her own. Martin loaded the bases with a third straight walk, as all three runners eventually crossed home plate. Christy hit a single in the fifth.
Whiteoak capped off their scoring in the seventh with three runs.
Tolliver led off the inning with her second walk of the game, followed by a single by Martin. Burns gained a base hit, and Kari Fannin reached the bases with a walk. Nichols drew a walk and was followed with a single by Bingamon. The final WHS hit was a double by Ashley Frazer. Scoring runs in the inning were Tolliver, Burns and Fannin.
The Lady Mustangs had four hits in the game but were held hitless for the final three innings.
Gaining hits for LC were Daisy Christophel, Alyssa Reynolds, Lillian Blankenship and Sara Martin.
The winning pitcher was Nichols, who pitched all seven innings for the Lady 'Cats. She allowed no runs, with four hits, no walks and six strikeouts.
"Juanita hasn't pitched since last Friday, but the later the game went, the better she did of hitting her spots. She pitched well overall," Malone said.
