LEESBURG — The third time around was the "charm" for the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats on Thursday night, winning a very close five-game match against Highland County rival Fairfield for a sectional title.

The Division IV sectional final match, which took place at Grandle Gymnasium in Fairfield High School, not only went five games, but it was the first time this season the Lady 'Cats defeated the Lady Lions. In their two previous regular-season matches, the Lady Lions won both times.

The first set went to the No. 4 seeded Lady Lions, who are the reigning Southern Hills League volleyball champions, by a 25-21 score.

FHS took a two-game to none lead with a seven-point victory at 25-18 for game two.

Down two games, WHS (a No. 5 seed) kept the match, and their season, alive with a 25-13 game three win and 26-24 game four win, tying the match at two games each.

WHS then won the fifth game at 16-14.

The win moves the Lady 'Cats to the Division IV SE District tournament with a semifinal match against No. 1 seeded Eastern Meigs on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. at Jackson High School. EM defeated Federal Hocking in three games on Thursday by scores of 25-6, 25-14 and 25-6.[[In-content Ad]]
