Jackson, Musketeers back in the NCAA Tournament

McClain graduate Dante Jackson is headed to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in his three years at Xavier University.
The Xavier Musketeers (24-8), who were the regular season Atlantic 10 Conference Champions, lost in the semifinal of the A-10 Tournament to the Richmond Spiders Saturday but received a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament, where they will face No. 11 seeded Minnesota (21-13) on Friday in the West Region opening round.
As for Jackson, the junior guard played in all 31 games for the Musketeers this season, where he played a total of 776 minutes, shooting 63-163 from the field. From the free-throw line, Jackson was 15 of 18 (83.3 percent) and from beyond the arc the McClain grad was 47 of 121.
Defensively, Jackson totaled 100 rebounds this season, 13 from the offensive side.
The three-year player for the Musketeers also totaled 71 assists, 32 steals and five blocks for the 2009-10 season.
For the season Jackson has averaged 6.1 points per game, along with averages of 25 minutes per game, 3.2 rpg and 2.3 apg.
In his two previous NCAA Tournament appereances, Jackson has made big-time shots when needed. In all, Jackson has played in seven NCAA Tournament games.
The 6-5, 195 guard scored 13 points against Portland State in his second NCAA Tournament appearance, along with three assists and four steals. Last season in the NCAA Tournament, the Musketeers fell in the Sweet 16 to Pittsburgh, 60-55. To reach the final 16 teams playing, XU defeated Portland St. and Wisconsin in the first two rounds.
One of Jackson's top collegiate games came during his freshman season when he made a big 3-pointer against the Georgia Bulldogs to give XU the lead, which XU never relinquished in a 52-49 victory. That season the Musketeers reached the Elite 8 when they lost to UCLA. In Jackson's first NCAA appearance XU took down UG, Purdue and West Virginia.
This season Jackson scored his career-high with a 19-point effort against the Dayton Flyers on January 16. For the year, Jackson has four 10-plus point games.
In the month of March, the MHS grad has scored 35 points in four games, with 11 against St. Bonaventure. He also has scored 10 against Richmond, nine vs. Fordham and five in a A-10 tourney game against UD.[[In-content Ad]]
