Xavier senior and McClain graduate Danté Jackson earned the Connie Brown Award, which is given annually to the team's most inspirational player at the recent Xavier men's basketball end of season banquet.

This is the second straight year that Jackson has won this award. Jackson and fellow senior Joe Hughes were a part of 107 wins during their careers, which left them just one win shy of the XU wins record. Their teams won seven NCAA Tournament games.

Jackson spoke at the event, the last of all the seniors. According to Cincinnati.com, Jackson became emotional at times during the speech, while bringing laughter from the crowd.

In the Cincinnati.com report Jackson, when speaking about his family, said, “You guys have been everything to me. Honestly, without you guys, I’d just be another guy. I love you guys all."

The McClain graduate played in four NCAA tournaments, reaching the Elite 8 his freshman season. He also played in three Sweet 16s, finishing his college career with 795 points (5.8 ppg). This past season he scored 253 points, for 7.9 ppg in 32 starts.

His career-high in scoring in a game at XU was 19, twice. Most recently was on Feb. 13 at Duquesne.

In high school, Jackson scored 2,423 points, with 1,014 rebounds, 502 assists and 312 steals in four years at MHS, where he is the all-time leader in all four categories.
