Hillsboro hit by Storm in doubleheader loss

HILLSBORO — One day after gaining two wins on the same day, Hillsboro Post 129's string of three straight wins ended on Saturday afternoon at Shaffer Park. Scoring one run combined in two losses to the Cincinnati Storm Club, Hillsboro fell by scores of 5-1 and 11-0.
Post 129 stands at 8-16 overall, with two games scheduled for Sunday at Circleville Post 134, both league games. Hillsboro will return home on Tuesday, June 28 hosting Portsmouth Post 23 in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.
The losses on Saturday were the second and third times Hillsboro lost to the Storm Club this season, falling 16-6 in an away game.
In the first game of the twin bill, Hillsboro led 1-0 after the first inning.
Ian Adams reached first on a single and scored on a base hit by Cody Shaver, with both players providing the lone run and RBI for Hillsboro on the day. Tucker Hughes led off the inning with a single but was caught out at second base. Dustin Taylor had a single in the inning.
Post 129 finished the first inning with five hits, but managed just two more for the remainder of the game.
Hillsboro lost the lead in the second inning with the Storm Club adding two runs to their side, for a 2-1 advantage.

Miller followed with a base hit, but Bean was the first out of the inning as the centerfielder threw him out at home. Post 129 was caught in a double play to end the inning.
In the fifth through seventh innings, Hillsboro had no base runners, retiring in order each inning.
The loss on the hill was charged to Casey Jordan. Jacob Dillon pitched in relief. The win went to Volhup.
After the two-run second inning, the Storm didn't add their final three runs until the seventh. In that inning, Post 129 had one error while allowing two hits, two walks and one sacrifice fly.
For the game, Hillsboro had two errors.
The second game of the doubleheader went worse for the host team, falling 11-0 in five innings, less than 24 hours after Hillsboro won via the run-rule against Washington C.H. Post 25.
Hillsboro left four runners on the bases, with two hits and one walk in Game 2.
The first hit for Post 129 came in the first inning off the bat of Hughes, with a two-out single.
In the second, Taylor Smucker forced a two-out walk, and in the fifth, it was Smucker hitting a single to lead off the inning.
