PORTSMOUTH — Before their wooden bat tournament, Post 129 played in three road games, starting with losses to Portsmouth Post 23, 6-4 and 5-1 in a doubleheader.
Against Post 129, at Shawnee State University, the Portsmouth squad scored all six of their runs in the bottom of the first inning on six consecutive hits. All six batters who got a hit in the inning crossed home plate.
After the first inning, Post 129 pitcher Tucker Hughes retired the next six batters in order, with two three-up, three-down innings. He also did the same thing in the fifth and sixth innings.
Hughes, who was charged with the loss, faced 26 batters with one strikeout. He allowed six runs (six earned) on eight hits and two walks.
Post 129 attempted a comeback, but it was too little, too late as they didn't score a run until the third inning, with Jacob Dillon scoring the run.
In the fourth, Hillsboro added two more runs with Brady Camp and Nathaniel Miller scoring. Camp reached first on a single and Miller walked. They scored on a two-run double by Ian Adams.
The final Post 129 run crossed home in the sixth with Zach Uhl scoring on a double by Dillon. Uhl singled to start the inning.
Hillsboro finished with seven hits with Cody Shaver going 2-for-4. Gaining one hit each were Bryce Bean, Camp, Uhl, Adams and Dillon.
In the second game of the twin bill, Post 23 scored their runs in the second and fourth innings to take a 2-1 lead against Hillsboro.
Post 23 took complete control with a three-run fifth inning.
Dustin Taylor was charged with the loss. In six innings, he faced 28 batters, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks. He struck out three.

Hillsboro 4, Madison County 3
WEST JEFFERSON — In the final leg of their road trip before their wooden bat tournament, Hillsboro Post 129 gained their fifth win of the season, defeating Madison County Post 105, 4-3 at West Jefferson High School.
Hillsboro had two two-run innings to earn the road win, scoring twice in the first and sixth innings.
In the first, Ian Adams reached first on a single and was followed by a walk forced by Tucker Hughes. Cody Shaver was hit by a pitch, and Brady Camp also walked in the inning.
Scoring runs in the inning were Adams and Hughes.
In the sixth inning, Bryce Bean and Camp scored runs for Hillsboro. Bean reached the bases on a walk, and Camp took first on a error. Bean scored by stealing second base and taking third and home on two consecutive passed balls.
Madison County scored their runs in the bottom of the first, fifth and seventh innings with South scoring all three runs. Camp also scored on consecutive passed balls.
Casey Jordan was the winning pitcher, and Zach Uhl got the save.
